Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada was established on a 110-acre land in the year 1953 (classes commenced on July 22, 1954) with Rev Fr Theo Mathias, SJ, (now, Emeritus Professor, Xavier Labour Relations Institute, Jamshedpur) as its first Principal. The college was affiliated to Andhra University till December 1976 and to Nagarjuna University thereafter. Throughout these fifty years, Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada has unfailingly occupied a premier position in higher education producing men and women of “competence, conscience, and compassionate commitment”, which is the goal of Jesuit education. The alumni of Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada (who include Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh), occupy high positions in different fields in India and abroad, and they hold fast to this vision.

Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada possesses excellent infrastructural facilities- the finest campus in Vijayawada with an excellent layout in sprawling 100 acres of land. The campus is rightly described as "the Lungs of Vijayawada" because of the greenery and cleanliness of the campus. Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada Computer Centre is well equipped with state-of-the-art technology. It is located in a spacious building of 5,000 sft floor space. A centralized Computer Centre with networking of 128 nodes connected through LOCAL AREA NETWORK ( LAN ), NETWORK ( NT ), UNIX with structured cabling with switches and distributed computer facilities in different offices for effective administration. The Computer Centre is open from 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. Special Courses in Computer Science are being offered for all first year degree students.
Known as Father Gordon Library, Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada library has a wide range of books in different fields. Apart from books, it also provides a wide range of magazines, journals and newspapers which provide up-to-date information. It has a collection of old project records of the students which are in many ways helpful for the final year students who go in for a project. During this academic year, the library has added over 3000 books to its existing stock of 65,0000. 5 more international journals have been added to the list of journals. On an average,130 books are issued per day. 150 to 200 readers use the Reference Section daily.
In this 'Year of Books', the library is being upgraded as a nerve centre of intellectual activity with automation. Library automation is completed and a database created is with 25,000 records for student retrieval and circular system. Xeroxing facility at concession rates has been added to the Library services. There are 4 hostels on Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada campus with a residential capacity for 1200 students mainly to cater to the needs of the rural students for providing opportunities to them for holistic formation.
Each department of Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada has an association with a Chairman and Office-bearers from among the students with a staff member as the Co-ordinator. The Departmental Associations organise co-curricular activities like science exhibitions, industrial visits, guest lectures and seminars as well as literary and cultural activities. A weeklong separate cultural festival called SPHOORTI is organized for the Degree students. In addition, students of Andhra Loyola College – ALC Vijayawada participate in many Inter-collegiate and State-Level competitions and win prizes. Adequate facilities are available for the physical training of the students. A football ground, a cricket field, a hockey field, 4 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, 1 handball court, 3 lawn tennis courts, 4 table tennis tables, a ball badminton court, 4 shuttle badminton courts (indoor) and 1 multi gym in a spacious indoor stadium are located within the campus.
