Government Polytechnic - Jhansi was laid down in the year 1958 .This institute is situated on the Jhansi Gwalior Road. Jhansi the head of 'BUNDELKHAND' region is the historical and industrial city .There are so many industry like Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, Diamond cement factory , Railway Workshop, Paricha Thermal Power Plant , Vikas Uddyog, Rolling Mill, Hume Pipe Industry, Spinning Mill and Srinivas Steel Ltd .etc.
Initially Government Polytechnic - Jhansi started its academic session in three disciplines Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. In the year 1971, the institute started diploma course in Automobile Engineering, in the year 1972, diploma course in Electronics Engineering and later in the year 1993 diploma in Computer Application was also added in the curriculum. On the whole Government Polytechnic - Jhansi is running with six discipline having intake 30, 30,30,40,30 and 40 respectively. Diploma certificate in various discipline are given by Board of Technical Education, U.P Luck now. Because institute building was designed for three disciplines namely civil, electrical and mechanical therefore need for extra building was felt .so new block of electronics was constructed.
Government Polytechnic - Jhansi acquires 103.47 acres of land till 3 rd March 1958, out of which 15 acres land transferred to industrial state, 3.47 acres to railway, and 15 acres to Government Girls Polytechnic and 2.42 acres to the Joint Director Technical Education (Bundelkhand Zone). After transferring it has net 67.58 acres of land. The institute has its own administrative, academic building for different trades, hostel, N.C.C blocks, and playground.
Government Polytechnic - Jhansi is located at Jhansi Gwalior Road, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Government Polytechnic - Jhansi provides library facility. A well furnished library with a large number of books journals periodicals magazines and news paper is being run in the college from 10 am to 5.30 pm to augment the knowledge of the student .the library has a specious reading room with open book shelves system for staff and students.
Government Polytechnic - Jhansi has Specious Work Shop having a large number of experimental tables with modern scientific equipment /instruments. 180 seated double stored and fully finished boys hostel is available in the campus itself 45seated girls’ hostel is also constructed this year. Common hall TV news paper and magazine are provided to the resident student.
Government Polytechnic - Jhansi is well equipped to offer certificate courses for unemployed youths for community development and physically handicraft persons for betterment of their lives in area of technical education. In this scheme about 35 students are enrolled under formal education and about 30 student are enrolled under no formal training programs such as motor winding, house wiring, DTP screen printing, TV repairing, inverter assembly and cable making.
