School formerly known as 'Institute of Petroleum Technology' is part of the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, located in Gandhinagar. School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar offers courses addressing the technological requirements of the oil & Gas sector. The programmes offered include education in different aspects of the Petroleum industry, including Exploration, Production, Drilling, Reservoir, Transportation, Refining & Geosciences of Energy and Petroleum Sector.B.Tech(petroleum engineering) programme of SPT is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE).
School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar also offers M Tech and PhD in Petroleum Engineering.Library and Information Centre [LIC] is the heart of School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar with an aim of providing production & dissemination of knowledge, information, insights & intellect in all of its academic programmes. The centre has utilised Information Technology extensively to ensure that resources are accessible from anywhere at anytime. Services such as OPAC for checking online availability and reserving online, remote access to e-resources and databases make the LIC user friendly. LRC holds collection of printed as well electronic resources which include books, journals, databases, CDs/DVDs, e-journals, reports, case studies, conference proceedings, training manuals, etc. School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar library has been automated using Alice for Windows (AfW) – an international user- friendly library package. The software facilitates automated circulation (issue-return) of books and speedy access to bibliographic, location and availability information of the books in the library. The catalogue is available on the Internet for inquiring about books.
Empirical experiences are prerequisites for scientific and engineering education. School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar has created a number of sector relevant engineering laboratories which are well equipped to facilitate the pedagogic and research process. The practical classes are well integrated into the curriculum, but the school encourages even more extensive use of these facilities to nurture a research led environment. The labs are being continuously upgraded with new equipment, to strengthen the research work of the M.Tech and Ph.D students who rely extensively on experiments to validate their work.
In order to cater to the residential requirements of the academic programme, School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar sponsored hostel facilities for boys and girls are available at reasonable rates in the vicinity of the school. The hostels are built and operated by reputed private entrepreneurs and School of Petroleum Technology will exercise its quality control and monitoring of the facilities and discipline of the hostel in close co-ordination with the Hostel Service Providers. Bus service will be provided between the hostels and the School of Petroleum Technology site. School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar in-campus Residential Facilites offer furnished hostel rooms on a twin occupancy basis. This is an optional facility offered to B. Tech students. Separate hostels are provided for female students. There are seven fully functional hostel blocks which are wi-fi enabled and are well designed to meet the needs of the students. These include emergency medical facilities, a doctor on call, 24x7 access to computer labs and a well equipped and comfortable lounge to facilitate group activities.
The Video Graphics Association, better known as the VGA, is a student body within School of Petroleum Technology – SPT Gandhinagar which started as a small group of students interested in making videos. The body having initially made two videos for welcoming the freshers during the counseling process of the year 2008 has expanded to constitute a total of a hundred students in the academic year 2008-09. The VGA now undertakes activities like making of documentaries on social awareness, academics and for student entertainment. The VGA also makes short films aimed at not only sending messages out to the public but also for competing in national level film festivals.
