Department of Corrections was formed on January 1, 2003 which was created to handle booking and incarceration of inmates and arrestees of Louisville, Kentucky. It was formed by the merging of the Louisville and
Jefferson County governments which is also known as Jefferson County Corrections Department. This department deals with three major facilities which are the Metro Corrections
Main Jail complex (MJC), the adjacent hall of justice (HOJ) and the community corrections Center on East Chestnut Street. Currently, the department is having 451 officers and 129 civilian staff members.
