Railway Recruitment Board (RRB),
Ahmedabad is located at 1st floor, Meter Gauge Building, Railway station, Kalupur, Amedabad- 380002. It was established in the year 1982. It is under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. It is responsible for recruitment of Group “C” staff under various categories for all railway establishments which fall under its jurisdiction. RRBs were initially called as Railway Service Commissions and were started in July 1942 for recruitment of Subordinate staff on the ten North West Railway. In 1945 four such Service Commissions were established in Bombay, Calcutta,
Madras and Lucknow. These Railway Service Commissions were renamed as RRBs in January 1985. Presently there are twenty one RRBs in the country. All RRBs came under the control of Railway Recruitment Control Board (RRCB) which was established in 1998. Its main function being coordinating and streamlining the working of RRBs. The selection process for recruitment under the RRB’s is as per the rules and regulations issued by the Ministry of Railways which includes reservations for certain castes etc. It calls for applications through Employment News and conducts a written examination. As per categories a psychological test or second stage written test is conducted. Subsequently interviews and/or verification of documents of the successful candidates is conducted. Thus, recommending a panel of names for appointments in respective Railway Establishments.
