Charles was an electrician/plumber and Dorothea. When he was baby his apartment was burned and he was saved by his
Uncle Charlie. He grows up in a poor family. He studied at a local public school and then The High School of Music and Art. After complete his Graduation there he attended the Hunter College. He did many jobs before became a writer. In 1960 he worked in a bookstore and singing in a coffeehouse. He has written more than 50 poetry collection.
