Kabir born in Bengali
Muslim family on 19 July, 1948 was the 39th Chief Justice of India (CJI). He studied law and graduated from
Presidency College affiliated with University of
Calcutta and practiced criminal law in Kolkata. Justice Kabir became the Chief Justice of Calcutta
High Court on 11 January, 2005 and did a major contribution by computerizing Calcutta High Court,
City Civil Court and other courts in Kolkata. Before assuming the office of
Supreme Court he had served Chief Justice of the Jharkhand
High Court in March 2005. As a Supreme Court
Judge of India he had given major judgements on human rights and election laws. Justice Kabir was appointed by the President of India as the 39th CJI. He served the position for a period of 9 months from 29 September, 2012 to 18 July, 2013.
