The Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) set up in Surat,
Gujarat operated by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited- a Government of India Enterprise. The KAPS was commissioned on 06 May, 1993 and each one of the Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor(PHWR) producing 220 MW of power. On 01 September, 1995 KAPS started commercial production of power. CANDU Owners Group (COG) ranked KAPS – 1 as the world’s best PHWR in January, 2003. The objective of NPCL is to produce power using nuclear technology in a safe, environment –friendly & economical way to meet the increasing power demands of the country.
