Kuwait in Australia was formed on 31/1/2002 and its office is located in Canberra, Australia. This also serves as the
Kuwait Embassy for New Zealand also. Since the State of Kuwait obtained it’s
Independence in 1961 Kuwait and the
Commonwealth of Australia has established a very strong bilateral relationship both in terms of cultural & financial sources. Kuwait a small country situated in the northern part of the Arabian
Peninsula is the 2nd largest Oil producing country in the world. With its strong economic growth and influence in the decision making OPEC it was important for Australia to maintain a very healthy and controversy free relationship with Kuwait.
Australia had already an Embassy in Kuwait as early as 1974. This was due to the safeguard of huge influx of
Australian citizens working in Kuwait especially in the Oil Industry. Since the turn of the millennium there have been an increased number of Kuwaiti youngsters coming to Australia to make use of the high standard of education facilities available in Australia as well as New Zealand. So the need of an Embassy in the region became a necessity in order to meet the amenities required for the students staying in Australia. Hence the formation of the Embassy was done.
