He is famous for writing songs addressing the topics like death, mental illness and loneliness. He started his career in year 1991 and can play number of instruments like guitar, keyboard, piano, vocals and drums. His music has been featured in number of films like American Beauty, Road Trip, Holes, Hot Fuzz and Yes Man. He is also a drummer of the independent rock band Eels and has also published an autobiography.
