University Stadium is a foot-ball stadium with 6000 seating capacity located in Seagram Drive near
Waterloo Park, Ontario. University stadium is also known as Knight- Newbrough Field. University stadium previously known as Seagram Stadium was built and opened in the year 1958.Wilfrid
Laurier University owns the stadium and is the home to the Wilfrid Laurier
Golden Hawks football, rugby and
Lacrosse teams. The stadium is also used for foot ball games by
University of Waterloo Warriors. The track is not allowed for the public.
Joseph E. Seagram and Sons Limited had donated $ 250,000 million in 1957 to
University of Waterloo to build the stadium. University also received contributions from Ontario Hydro and the
City of Waterloo. The stadium was hired by city from 1968 to 1974.The stadium needed major repairs and the university decided to sold the property to Wilfrid
Laurier University in July, 1992. Artificial turf installation incurred an expense of $1.7 million. In March 1995 the stadium was renamed as University Stadium and Sports Centre. In the year 2007 the stadium had gone through a major renovation costed around $ 5million and the field was replaced with 'FielDturf'. The football field was renamed as Knight- Newbrough Field to honour the two legendary Laurier foot ball head coaches
Dave "Tuffy" Knight and Rich Newbrough.
