Alan Cox is a British software engineer. He was born on 22 July 1968 in Solihull, England. Alan Cox maintained the 2.2 branch of the Linux kernel ( a Unix-like operating system kernel used by Linux-based operating systems). Alan Cox has worked with Linux distributor Red Hat (1999-2009) and Intel Corporation (2011-13). Among the other projects that he has been involved with include GNOME, X.Org etc. Alan Cox has been awarded the Free Software Foundation's 2003 Award for the Advancement of Free Software, lifetime achievement award at the LinuxWorld awards (2005) etc.
