Assumption College - Kottayam is one of the biggest and the most reputed NAAC accredited women’s colleges in the state. For more than half a century Assumption College - Kottayam has been rendering invaluable service in the field of higher education. Nearly 2000 students study in this college. Assumption College is best known for its highest standards of spontaneous discipline, admirable academic brilliance and outstanding physical culture. Assumption College - Kottayam won the prestigious R Shankar Award from the Government of Kerala for the best college in the state in 1996-97, one of the first colleges to be honored so. For the past many years the Assumption College - Kottayam has held undisputed sway over the sports and games fields. We became the first recipients of the Kerala Sports Council’s Award for the best college in Sports & Games.
A unique attraction of Assumption College - Kottayam is the residential facilities it provides. About 600 students share these facilities in the six hostels attached to the Assumption College - Kottayam giving it almost the status of a residential college. Our Hostels are known for their discipline, cleanliness, and excellent infrastructural facilities. Stiff competition exists among these hostels at talent shows and other cultural extravaganza.
Assumption College - Kottayam auditorium, built in 1962, with a 1000 seat capacity is used for small functions in the campus. The Kavukattu Hall has a capacity of 2000 seats and is used for functions involving the whole College.It is a multipurpose stadium where Cultural functions and different prorammes are held. Total capacity of the stadium is about 2000. The Stadium was inaugurated on 15th January 2008 by His Grace Mar Joseph Perumthottam, Patron of the College and Archbishop of Changanassery.
The Center provides photocopying, DTP and laser printing facilities within the campus. The State Bank of Travancore has an extension counter within the campus, which serves the Assumption College - Kottayam and other clients. Bank timing is from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm.The canteen provide separate sections for students, teachers and non-teaching staff. It is open from 8.30 am in the morning till 5 pm in the evening. Students can avail of a neat spacious canteen, which provides snacks and refreshments. Assumption College - Kottayam also houses a TV with cable connection.The college has a well-ventilated and spacious dining hall.
Assumption College - Kottayam store, well stocked with books, stationery and other knick-knacks, caters to the various needs of the students. There are two public telephone booths for the use of staff and students. Intercom connects various departments and blocks. Assumption College - Kottayam has a full time counselling centre with 2 professional counsellors. They give orientation classes to each batch of students which enable them to recognize their needs. Two teachers coordinate the activities of the Cell which systematically imparts counselling to needy students.
We have an Anti Sexual Harassment Cell to look into the problems faced by our students while travelling to and from the Assumption College - Kottayam.This club which functions under the supervision of physical education department offers classes in Yoga conducted by a Yoga Shiromani before and after college hours. It also houses a gymnasium.Assumption College - Kottayam has an active Grievance Redressal Cell, which convenes meetings with student representatives and conducts open discussions. Grievance boxes have been installed to collect grievances.
Assumption College - Kottayam has got an active Alumni Association which meet periodically. We have chapters in North America and in Gulf Countries [Kuwait and Doha]. Alumnae members of Kuwait Chapter (ACCAA) and those of North America (SBAACAANA) sponsor scholarships and provide many other incentives. All outgoing students are expected to become members of the Association of Assumption College Alumnae.
During the year 2007-2008 all the departments organized their own alumnae associations and conducted meetings accordingly. The General meeting of AASA was conducted on 26th January 2008. Oath taking ceremony of the outgoing students was conducted on 8th February 2008 in order to express loyalty to the Assumption College - Kottayam and affirming a membership in AASA.
