Government College - Thiruvananthapuram Started in 1975. Government College - Thiruvananthapuram is located at Thiruvananthapuram. The main campus of University of Kerala is situated in the capital of the state, Thiruvananthapuram. The name Thiruvananthapuram means the abode of ‘Anantha’ the thousand-headed serpent of Hindu mythology. Spread over seven hills, this ancient city had trading links which brought it into close contact with the rest of the world. The world renowned Kovalam beach is hardly half an hour's journey from the campus.
Government College - Thiruvananthapuram Library, has a very large stock of books and journals. It has over 3 lakh books and over 1000 bound volumes of Journals.The library subscribes to 43 foreign Journals, over 400 Indian periodicals, 35 popular magazines and 20 Newspapers. The total number of membership of the library is over 30, 800 out of which student memberships comes to over 12, 270 and that of teachers comes to 2850.The Government College - Thiruvananthapuram library has now installed computer system for a LAN & CD-ROM network. A microfilm reader printer and a rare collection of journals in microfilm are available here. The Library has CD-ROM on many subjects. Internet facility is offered at slashed rates. OPAC facility also available.
There are three units of NSS, two units of NCC which have been serving the community around and actively particpating in most of the public programmes. Students of the Government College - Thiruvananthapuram, talented in Art and Literature and athletics, have participated in University and State level competitions and brought laurels to the institution many times.
Government College - Thiruvananthapuram also maintains a textbook section (book bank) from which students can borrow textbooks over a longer period. The day functioning of the library is taken care by library staff. Automation of the library is in progress, which will help in smooth and efficient functioning of library. Books will be issued to the students on production of the library borrower's card which is issued from the librarian to a bonafide student at the start of academic session after submitting the admission form. In order to avoid any misuse of the card a student should keep it in safe and report to the librarian in case of lost/misplaced.
Government College - Thiruvananthapuram offers undergraduate courses in Economics, Communicative English,Commerce and Polymer Chemistry and a Postgraduate course in Economics. The first batch of the students of B.Sc. Polymer Chemistry, who passed out in 1998 has brought laurels to the Government College - Thiruvananthapuram, securing 100 percent pass and the largest number of first classes in terms of percentage in Kerala University.

Students are expected to leave the canteen as soon as they finish their meals or snacks..Photocopying facility is available at the College Book Store on payment basis. The campus has 24 hours power supply. In case of power failure, generators will supply power to the Government College - Thiruvananthapuram and hostels.
As per Kerala Government directions, students are not permitted to bring powered vehicles (two-wheelers and four-wheelers) inside the Government College - Thiruvananthapuramcampus. A parking shed for two-wheeler vehicles is provided on the western side of the college canteen. Students are requested to park their vehicles in this shed or outside the shed.
520 computers are provided in the Government College - Thiruvananthapuram, which are connected by LAN. A modern well - furnished Computer Centre with necessary accessories are available for use of students. In addition to regular classes in the Computer Centre, students are directed to make the best use of the Computer Centre facilities by taking special training programmes arranged from time to time. An Internet Lab and two other computer labs are also available in the Government College - Thiruvananthapuram. The Computer Centre is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all working days of the college.
