Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad is the premier institute of western Uttar Pradesh. It was started in 1981 from the rented accommodation of Marshal Cycle Factory at Meerut road Industrial area, Ghaziabad. Initially this institute offered diploma courses in three disciplines i.e. three year diploma in Civil Engg., Mechanical Engg. (Prod.) And Electronics Engineering, with intake of 30, 30 and 45 respectively. Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad was shifted to its new premises at Shastri Nagar, Hapur Road, Ghaziabad in 1990. A number of new courses i.e. Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication, Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration, Part Time Four Year Diploma in Electronics & Mechanical Engg. (Prod). were added during word bank project in 1996. Two more courses on information Technology i.e. Diploma in Information Technology, and one year Post Diploma in Information Technology were added in Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad in Year 2001. In Year 2010 the one year Post Diploma in Networking and Hardware and Post Diploma in Web Technology is added to this Institute.
The land available with Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad is 5.5 acres and the building measures 7273 square meter. The institute is running with a four storied academic cum administrative building followed by a workshop having 8 well equipped shops. Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad provides PG Diploma program and Diploma program to the college students.

Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad library has around 37358 books related to different subjects of various disciplines of engineering, computer science, information technology, basic sciences, languages and other general books. The collection of books is strengthened and updated. A separate Book Bank is also provided to meet the requirement of students of S.C., B.C. and other lower income groups. The Book Bank has a collection of 11421 books.
Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad has one bus, one mini bus to take care of educational tours and industrial visits of students. A jeep is attached to Training & Placement Officer to keep interaction with industries for the placement of students. Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad is fully equipped with latest Machinery & Equipments to train the students to face the challenge of Modern Industries and conduct all the experiments and practical exercises as per the curriculum of the courses being run at this institute.
In spite of the tough and demanding curriculum, sports and extra-curricular activities are carried out as a regular feature in this Institute and students of Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad participate and perform well in the state level cultural and sport competitions e.g. Youth festival, Inter-Polytechnic Athletic Meets and the state level tournaments of various games and other literary activities like Quiz-contest, & Declamation Contest etc.
Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad has also the scheme of N.S.S (National Service Scheme). Various activities are carried out by the volunteers of this scheme, which include blood donation camps, tree plantation etc. Latest achievement of our Polytechnic is the first position in Inter – Polytechnic Table Tennis tournament held at G.P Sonepat in Sep 2006. And second position in Inter – Polytechnic Volley ball (shooting) held at G.P Nilokheri in Sep 2006.
Government Polytechnic - Ghaziabad provides different facilities. A comprehensive annual program of all academic and extra curriculum activities is prepared in the beginning of session. This is known as calendar of Activities. This include all National Festival, Quiz Contest, Paper Reading contest, Declamation contest, Blood Donation Camp, Tree plantation Camp, Sports Events, Short Industries visit, Long Industrial visit, Quest lectures etc.
