Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai is the oldest commerce college in the western (beyond Andheri) suburbs of Mumbai. It was established in the year 1972. The Prahaladrai Dalmia Trust, the members of Lions Club of Malad – Borivli along with a number of like-minded businessmen and philanthropists, contributed towards the fund for the establishment of a commerce college to fulfill the needs of the society. Keeping in mind the ideals of the founders of the
Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai , it initially aimed at providing commerce education to students in the vicinity, to make them self reliant and to contribute to the development of the society. Gradually the focus shifted to all round development of the youth by integrating cultural and social values.
Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai is located at S V Road, Malad, Mumbai. College encompasses the under-graduate, graduate and the post graduate section along with Self – financed and management courses. Over the years, the aim of the College has been to prepare the students to shine in all spheres of activities, be it academic, cultural or social. At present the college has 4500 students. Year after year the HSC results hovers around 97-99 %. In T.Y. B.Com. a large number of students get distinctions and many are placed in the first class.
For the dramatics team, winning has become a way of life there is hardly any competition that the Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai has not made a mark in, be it at the State or the National level. So much so, for winning the ‘Best Play’ for three years in a row, the Prithviraj Kapoor Trophy finds a place of Pride on the college shelf. The organizational and managerial skills of the students are developed through the conduct of the inter-collegiate festival popularly known as the ‘Dalmia Utsav’ (now rechristened as ‘Dalmia Lions Utsav’) wherein students of various colleges from all over Mumbai participate in literary activities, Performing Arts and Cultural activities. In the field of social work and community service, the college is at the forefront of NSS and DACEE units of the University of Mumbai.

All this is possible with the never ending support of the Lions Club of Malad - Borivali whose members believe in the motto of ‘We Serve’. Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai Building was constructed within a record period of 100 days. The College was inaugurated by T. K. Tope, the then Hon. Vice – Chancellor of the Bombay University, on 15th June, 1972. The College is now a four storyed building catering to the needs of Commerce faculties at both Graduate and Post – Graduate Levels. In addition to these, Self – financing courses such as BMS, MBA, BCA, BBA are also conducted in the College premises.
The Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai Building is equipped with facilities like Library, Computer Laboratories, Gymnasium, Gymkhana, Canteen, College Ground etc. In addition, the college has facilities such as ladies common room, 4 rust proof stainless steel body drinking water facilities with in-built filter for the benefits of the students. The college ground is within the College campus and is extensively used for practice of various outdoor games. Various activities and College functions are also conducted on this ground.
The Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai Library is spread over an area of 3748 sq. ft. and is situated on the fourth floor of the college building. It has a vast collection of nearly 30,000 books of various disciplines. The Library subscribes to nearly 13 newspapers, 20 magazines and 30 academic journals on a regular basis. For easy accessibility and reference the students make use of the Libsuite Library Software and can locate any book, journal, magazine etc., at the flick of a button.
Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai library is very student friendly, having spacious seating arrangement and is open from 7.00 a.m. in the morning to 5.00 p.m. in the evening. For the needy students the Library Loans books for the entire year from its Book Bank. The Library staff, led by the Librarian Ms. Shital Shah is ever ready to provide service to its voracious readers. The Library Committee (Comprising of Heads of various departments) takes the initiative to stock the library with books of a contemporary nature. The demand of the twenty first century requires that the new generation be computer savvy. Keeping this in mind, various courses and subjects like Information Technology (IT) and Computer Systems and Applications are conducted in the college.
Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai prides itself in having 3 computer laboratories with latest software and hardware configuration which have been installed to cater to the needs of the students in compliance with the designed syllabi. The latest addition to the college infrastructure is the air conditioned state–of–the–art gymnasium. Situated on the ground floor of the college building, it boasts of the latest gadgets and equipments… be it the motorized treadmill, the abdomen bench, the shoulder press or the magnetic cycle, free weights or the leg curl – all latest gadgets to keep one physically fit.
Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai Gymkhana is a separate unit within the college campus. It is well – equipped with indoor games like Carrom, Table-Tennis and Chess. The Gymkhana is well stocked with sports gear for various games such as Cricket, Volley ball, Foot ball, Boxing etc. It is the students’ favourite haunt. A large number of students participate in Inter – collegiate competitions at the District, State and National levels. Some of our teams have won prizes at the University and State levels in the past. At individual level we have won prizes at the various competitions. A Junior College student even participated in the State level Fencing competition last year.
Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics - Mumbai encourages the students in all possible ways for participating in various competitions. Students are encouraged to participate in various competitions for martial arts – Judo, karate, taekwando – or for wrestling, weight lifting, gymnastics etc. Special coaching is also given for some games. The college is proud of those sports persons who don the college colours and bring laurels to the institution. The College Canteen is situated on the Ground floor of the College building. It caters to the needs of the faculty and the students. The canteen provides food at subsidised rate.
