Rabindra Bharati University – Bengal was established on 8th May, 1962 under Rabindra Bharati Act of Govt. of West Bengal, 1961, to mark the birth centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore. In the year 2001, Rabindra Bharati University had been recognized and declared four star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Apart from promoting Visual Arts and Performing Arts, this University is offering for higher study in Bengali, English and Sanskrit literature and in disciplines like Economics, History, Political Science, Education, Library and Information Science and Mass Communication and Videography and Mathematics. The veteran faculties have made sure training up till post-graduate level, thereby providing scope for M.Phil and Research in various branches of knowledge.

The total intake capacity in the boys' hostel is 61 and the girls' hostels can provide accommodation to not more than 141 boarders. Rabindra Bharati University – Bengal provides training to its students in sports like Cricket, Football, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Athletic and Chess and inter-University tournaments. Promising players are given special coaching facilities under eminent part-time coach. A yearly sports event is held every winter where student as well as teaching and non-teaching employees of the University participate with enthusiasm.
Rabindra Bharati University – Bengal offers Graduate, Post Graduate, PhD, Certificate and Diploma programs. The programs include research paper of the works of Tagore, which makes it the Mecca for students who adore the works of Tagore. Apart from that the students can also sign up for courses offering training in Vocal Music and Rabindra Sangeet, Instrumental Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Painting and Sculpture.
Rabindra Bharati University – Bengal is at present providing the User Education Programs which are fruitful for the students. Some other courses and programs are also planned to be included in the curriculum of the University and the students will be given more exposure to the outer world by regular tours and social programs.
