Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur was established in 1964 with a vision to serve the Nation's poorest of the poor. Founded by Late Dr. Pabitra Kumar Sen (1906 - 1997), formerly Khaira Professor and Professor Emeritus in Agriculture, University of Calcutta, the institute strives for socio-cultural as well as educational upliftment of the surrounding areas largely populated by SC, ST and other backward communities. The institute is located nearly 18km. west from Jhargram town and 175km. South west from Kolkata.
Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur a multi-faculty UG College is approved by the UGC under section 2(f) of the UGC Act and affiliated to the Vidyasagar University. It has been running the B.P.Ed. course since the academic session 1995-96. The teachers training unit of the college provides a unique educational environment with its own administrative building, a large and well equipped gymnasium, extensive play-fields, a highly enriched library, Laboratories, Audio-visual equipments, recreational facilities, career counseling cell and everything ideal for Physical education centre.
The Physical education course is wholly residential with separate Hostels for male & female trainees and Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur is administered and managed by a democratic Governing Body approved by the affiliating University and the Government of West Bengal. The campus is crowned by trees and plants which make the site beautiful and attractive. Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur block includes Academic Departments, Computer Centre. Administrative cells, NCC and NSS offices, Library, Reading rooms & situated amidst lush greenery.
Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur comprises a good, well-furnished library having about 41,000 books, and various Journals. Modernization of the library is one of the top priorities of the college. The library contains rare and prestigious reference books. Many of the books have been donated by various people on various subjects. Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur comprises a good, well-furnished Computer Lab., Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Anthropology & Physical Education Lab. In the area of information and Technology the need of phone, photocopy and fax has been felt immensely. Keeping the necessity of the required facility, we shall provide the students with photocopy / STD / PCO / Fax / Stationary services.
To deal with the grievance of the students, faculty members and office staff of the college. Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur has constituted Grievance Redressal Cell. This cell is active in finding solution to various to various grievance put forth before the cell. For any kind of grievance the students and the faculty members may contact, Prof. Debashri Basu (Das), the Dept. of Philosophy. A panel of doctors is invited twice in a month for the medical check-up of the students of the college. A detailed checkup of the students is being conducted. The NSS Units of the college are instrumental in organizing medical check up and talks on various medical subjects for awareness among the students.
Canteen facility has been provided to the students on Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya – Medinipur campus near the basketball ground. It provides snack, tea, coffee, cold drinks etc. during college hours. The canteen is run by a private party on contract basis. Canteen Committee is being appointed by the Principal to monitor the quality of eatables, cleanliness, and prices there of. Career Consultancy Cell provides the students with career options in higher studies and employment opportunities in different sectors.
