Shekhar Kapur is an Indian film director, actor and producer. He was born on December 6, 1945 in Lahore, Punjab, British India. He did his schooling from Modern School, New Delhi. He completed his degree in economics from
St. Stephens College and became
Chartered Accountant with
Icaew from England. He worked in a multinational oil company and in year 1970 he shifted to United Kingdom and was working there as an accountant and Management Consultant.
Shekhar Kapur began his acting career in year 1975 in the movie Jaan Hazir Hai. He turned
Director in Year 1983 with the family drama Masoom. In year 1998 he gained the International recognition for directing the Academy Award winning period film Elizabeth. He has received many awards and appreciations which also includes the Padma
Shri award in year 2000. He became famous with the Bollywood film Bandit
Queen in year 1994.
