JSS Medical College – Mysore was started in 1984-85 and is imparting education in medical sciences (MBBS) course. It is recognized by the Medical Council of India and was affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore from 1995-1996. JSS Medical College – Mysore has now become a constituent college of JSS University established under Section-3 of UGC Act from 28-05-2008. The students of this college are from all corners of India as well from abroad. JSS Medical College – Mysore is also recognized by The General Medical Council, Sri Lanka Medical Council and WHO. Post-graduate courses in various faculties, Ph.D. and Para Medical Courses have also been started.
JSS Medical College – Mysore College since its inception is dedicated to serving society as a center of excellence with emphasis on socially meaningful medical education, research and health care. The college has emerged as a pioneer in the state of Karnataka by providing medical and health care programs through internationalization, innovation in academic and research studies. JSS Medical College – Mysore offers undergraduate course in medicine (M.B.B.S) and postgraduate degree (M.D/M.S) and diploma programmes in 18 medical disciplines. The sanctioned annual intake to the M.B.B.S programme is 150. JSS Medical College – Mysore of offering DNB in Urology and Radio-diagnosis also. The college is also conducting course for B.Sc., in Respiratory Care Technology and M.Sc., (Psycho Social Rehabilitation) The courses offered are a perfect blend of community oriented, problem based learning with high quality clinical reasoning. It is intended to provide M.Sc.,/ Ph.D., and M.D.,/ Ph.D., programmes in some subjects such as Physiology, Anatomy, etc., to encourage research in these basic subjects.
JSS Medical College – Mysore is located in a sprawling 43 acre campus in Sri Shivarathreeshwara Nagara, Mysore City, which is about 140 Km from Bangalore. JSS Medical College – Mysore has altogether a newly constructed building with an area spread across 1,53,000 sq.fts. The fully equipped Pre-clinical and Para-clinical departments along with museums are an added advantage in the building. In addition to this the building has 7 lecture halls, 1 spacious library and 1 large auditorium. The administrative section is located on the ground floor.
Bharath Hospital & Cancer Research Centre, Mysore, is associated with JSS Medical College – Mysore and is facilitating the services to the needed and the poor at a larger proportion. Bharath Hospital has a well-planned, nicely built infrastructure in an area of about 9 acres. The unit has a whole body CT Scan, Cobalt radiation unit and all the modern facilities. The students of J.S.S. Medical College are making use of all the advantages that are blended with a sisterly concern. JSS Medical College – Mysore campus also houses 5 blocks of boys hostel including many facilities for the under-graduates, post-graduates and the intern students with the accommodating capacity for nearly 500 members. There is a separate hostel for women with the accommodating capacity for nearly 400 candidates.
The 'Library and Information centre' in JSS Medical College – Mysore was established in the year 1984-85 with a sole purpose to quench the thirst of knowledge and to fulfill the concerned needs of both the faculty and the students. The central library is located in the first floor of the main building, which is spread in an area of 14,167 sq ft. This building is divided into different sections like Reference Section, Periodicals, Computer, Audio-visual Section and General Reading Room. The hospital library is an extension of JSS Medical College – Mysore library and it was established in the year 1997 for the benefit of clinical faculties, post Graduate students and house surgeons. The library has in its store a tremendous collection of about 15,460 volumes. Added to this the collection includes the back volumes of Periodicals, Video cassettes and 35 mm Slides etc. The collection also comprises of Medical Reference Books, Textbooks, Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Technical Reports, Thesis Works and Dissertation Reports and many other books on General Reading.
JSS Medical College – Mysore has many facilities like enough space for playing the games viz., cricket, football, table tennis, volley ball, hockey badminton and in addition to it athletics and indoor games are also availble. A permanent sports ground on par with National standards is also there in the campus along with a well equipped gymnasium. The recently established lab is well equipped and helps largely in analyzing chromosome number abnormalities in the cells. The birth defects can be detected well in advance helping in diagnosing the infertile couple. The counseling provided in right time for the suffering family members helps them in making their life style better and worth living. A branch of State Bank of Mysore at S.S.Nagara, Mysore shares its banking services with JSS Medical College – Mysore being just attached to the college building. Both the Post Office (Sub Branch) and the Telegraph Offices are in the campus.
