Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research - MIMSR Latur Medical College was started in a small portion of Rajarshi Shahu College in 1990, with an annual intake of 100 students for MBBS undergraduate course and shifted to the present premises on Ambajogai road in 1992 having 95 acres of land. The associated rural hospital with 750 beds named after our illustrious leader Shri. Yeshwantrao Chavan had started functioning simultaneously in 1992. In addition, the college acquired the facility to use initially, 100 beds for clinical teaching in civil hospital; later on this facility was extended to 200 beds by the govt. of Maharashtra on payment.
Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research - MIMSR Latur also utilized 150 beds of Vivekanand Hospital for the same purpose so had 1100 beds for teaching against the 700 beds required by MCI. The facility at civil hospital was discontinued in 2001-02 when the MCI reduced the required bed strength from 700 to 500. Presently we utilize 550 beds of YCR Hospital for giving rich experience and exposure to our students in clinical practice. Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research - MIMSR Latur was given permanent recognition by MCI in 1997. It was affiliated with Marathwada University from 1990-91 till its bifurcation in 1994-95. Then its affiliation was transferred to SRTM University, Nanded in 1995-96. Since the establishment of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nasik in 1998-99, the affiliation of MIMSR was again transferred to MUHS, Nasik. Its affiliation is now continued with MUHS for 2006-2007.

Thus Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research - MIMSR Latur was established with a sole aim of making it a” Centre of Excellence" in the field of medical education and research. Where in these times of high stress fast spaced academic pressure oriented environment, we help our students to turn their dreams into reality by offering razor-sharp and result oriented programmes and attitudes, as well as provide the tertiary health care to the poor people of the region at affordable cost through it’s attached teaching hospital (Y.C.R. Hospital), at the doorstep, so that the people need not have to go to the places like Mumbai, Pune or Hyderabad for sophisticated and advance treatment. Library has separate reading rooms for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Book bank facility is provided to SC & ST students. A complete set of books is issued to them for the tenure of their study. Keeping pace with the developments in the field of information technology, library offers following computer based services, besides the conventional ones.
Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research - MIMSR Latur invests Computer equipments and substantially in latest software to ensure that students have ready access to up to date technology. There is a dedicated Internet center available to the students essentially for web browsing purpose with a reasonable number of computers. A centralized Internet browsing facility is made available for students and staff members. It is connected with a lease line, to facilitate high speed Internet surfing. State-of-art IBM servers are connected through a structured network. Printing facility is also made available for students and staff in the laboratory. To provide optimum browsing services to the students, the Internet Center remains open on all seven days in the week from 8.00am to I 2.00 pm.

Thus, an extension counter has been opened in the campus. To facilitate the after working hour requirement of cash, an ATM center will also be started soon in Maharashtra Institute of Medical Sciences and Research - MIMSR Latur campus. The sports ground houses a number of outdoor games facilities like Basket ball, Cricket, Volley Ball and Lawn tennis. It also has a well-developed jogging track to cater to the needs of the health buffs. Special care is taken for the maintenance of the entire ground. Indoor game facilities like Table Tennis, carom, and badminton are also provided.
