RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur was established in the year 1995. RMK Engineering College is situated in a picturesque environment at Kavaraipettai, Gummidipoondi Taluk at a distance of 30km from Chennai. RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur is managed by Lakhsmikanthammal Educational Trust. The objective of the trust is to foster Technical & Higher Education, Training & Research in various branches of Engineering and Science & Technology. At the same time, the emphasis is to inculcate among the youth, a sense of discipline to mould them as professionals with integrity and character. RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur has been in the forefront, to provide the students with practical, relevant and applied education, by implementing its successful educational approach in the college.

RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur has well qualified, highly experienced and dedicated staff in all disciplines. There are about 154 faculty members, out of whom 19 are Doctorates, 12 are with M.Phil degrees and more than 60 members hold Masters Degrees. The staff-student ratio is 1:15. Guest lectures by eminent professors, scientists, experts from industries and educational administrators are organized frequently. College provides Bachelor Degree and Master Degree to the college students.

Spread across 125 acres of lush green environment, RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur has excellent infrastructure facilities including adequate class rooms and seminar halls for respective departments. The main block, named after Shri. Rajendra Naidu has three floors, with a built up area of 2850 sq.m. It accommodates well-ventilated, spacious classrooms and drawing halls. Apart from Physics, Chemistry laboratories, an auditorium with a capacity of 300 seats and an administrative office along with an ATM facility are also part of this block.
RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur has a Library and Information Center facilitating the students with the latest developments in Systems, Technology and International Standard Resources. The ultra modern library is located in Swaminatha Naidu block. Professional librarians are available to help the students and staff with their information needs. Housed in an area of 900sq.m, the central library has 25,700 books in 7000 titles. Moreover, the library is facilitated with 73 National and 59 International journals. The library and information center has separate reading and reference sections to help the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Augmented with a modern computer center, RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur offers the best and updated practical training with various facilities like Computer programming laboratory, Multimedia, Internet and CAD Laboratory. The computer center with a built up area of 950 sq.m, is located in the first floor of Swaminatha Naidu Block. Housing more than 250 computers, 5 IBM Intellistations with excellent features and capable of analyzing finite Element Models and carrying out 3-dimensional computer aided solid modeling. Moreover, all the computers in the campus, including those in the hostels and departments are connected by means of a Fibre Optic Network. The Computer Centre has net facility with 2Mbps bandwidth of supporting more than 200 computers at a time. RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur has maintained a modern and practical approach in education and training to meet the demands of the rapidly changing global environments. The College has individual seminar halls for all the respective departments to hold seminars, presentations and conventions.
RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur has comprehensive hostel facilities for the students. Three blocks for men and three blocks for women have been arranged, in all accommodating more than 1000 students. The Boys' Hostel-I with 3020 sq.m has 96 rooms spread over three floors and accommodates about 320 students of second year. The Boys' Hostel-II with 2810 sq.m has 72 rooms and accommodates 200 students of third and final year of B.E/ B.TECH and MCA. The Boys' Hostel-III with 3000 sq.m has 96 rooms spread over three floors and accommodates about 250 students of first year.
The Girls' Hostel-I of RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur with 1330 sq.m. has 36 rooms and accommodates 120 students. The Girls Hostel-II with 900 sq.m has about 20 rooms and accommodates 120 students. A separate dining hall covering 200 sq.m, to accommodate 100 students at a time, is also available in this block. The Girls' Hostel-III with 2800 sq.m. has more than 50 rooms with a study hall.
RMK Engineering College - Thiruvallur has a specially laid excellent 400 m atheletic track to facilitate students to practice and take part in state level events. Swami Vivekananda mentioned that playing sports is also a form of meditation. Sports require high levels of concentration. It helps to keep fit and creates a fire within to succeed. Above all these things, it develops a sportive spirit in the personality, which helps him to lead his life in a great way. A Cricket ground, Basketball, Volleyball and Tennis courts are made available for development in outdoor games. Table tennis, carom and chess are made available in indoor games.
