Consequent upon the decision, taken by Govt. of India in 1985, to tender a valuable, yet humble tribute to the everlasting memory of the revered saint, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology took its shape. The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET was established by Ministry Of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Govt. of India in the year 1989 and was formally inaugurated on 20th December 1991.
Accepting the new challenge of new education policy,
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET was established, with a vision to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics. It is committed to provide best possible technical education and to cater to the technical manpower requirements with emphasis on practical training in industry. The institute is an autonomous body, fully funded by Govt. Of India and controlled by SLIET society, registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860.
It was formulated that the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET, besides catering to the needs of formal education would undertake an arduous task to prepare the skilled and qualified manpower for self employment. Further, the institute would take up a strategic research and development activities which along with entrepreneurship will help in extending the efforts of the institute in imparting education to the unemployed and working population by updating and upgrading their technical skills. The institute was thought to cater to then existing 3-tier system to modern industry, which incorporates workers, technicians and engineers.
The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET has a sprawling area of 451 acres of land provided by Punjab Government. Surrounded by lush green land, the campus of the institute extends a beautiful and well developed area with many topographically featured picturesque landscape, numerous buildings of various nature and stature and metal road network. The campus presents a spectacle of harmony and natural beauty. It is embedded with all the amenities required for a complete township.
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET, Central Library is housed in a modern building having all kinds of facilities for its best utilization by the student community. It has large number of volume of technical books along with a good collection of books on literature, general awareness, management and moral sciences etc. The central library is already subscribing to a large number of National and International journals SLIET provides practical training to the students of all branches. It also provides practical training and experience to the students under 'Non-formal' Programmes. Manufacture and repairing of institute's furniture is also done in the workshops. It also conduct short orientation programmes for skill development of faculty and staff. Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET has established separate hostels for boys and girls. The college has 09 Boys Hostels The capacity of each hostels are 235 students, and the capacity of PG Hostel is 80 students. There are 02 Girls Hostels in college, while the third hostel is under construction.
The Health Center has been established in the Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET premises in a covered area of approx. 400 sq mts.,with capicity of four beds. It provides day to day medical facilities at primary level to the students,staff and faculty. For general awareness ,Health Center organise various seminar/camps with the help of Distt.Health Deptt. The Institute provides a lot of facilities to its residents for recreation and entertainment to make the life full of vigour some which are mentioned: Playgrounds and Stadium Lake, with natural sanctuary of birds along with boating facility, Badminton and Tennis Courts, Swimming Pool, Auditorium and open air theatre, Cable T.V. Network, Faculty/Staff club with indoor/outdoor games and other facilities, Children Parks, Indoor/Outdoor in all the hostels for students, Beautiful Plaza, Multipurpose hall, Student Activity Center etc. Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET campus has a modern Shopping Complex that caters to the needs of the students and other residents of the campus. A Guest House with 20 rooms(fully airconditioned), with all the modern amenities is available in the campus.It has full furnished modern Dinning Hall.
The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET offers different kind of courses in modular pattern of education in various branches of Engineering & Technology. The study programs include a range of courses of Certificate, Diploma, M Tech. Degree etc.
The training and placement department at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology-SLIET is working actively and passionately under the guidance of Dr. Pardeep Gupta (Head T & P),supported by a team of departmental coordinators. This time a major change has been made in the working of the Training and Placement department. Students from all batches have been involved in the working of the department. Almost more than 100 students have been placed this year.Major recruiters for this year are- TCS, Wipro, Syntel, Biralsoft, Dalmia Cements, Punj Lyod, L&T Infotech, L&T, Techmahindra,TCL, Godrej, Abhishek Industries.
