Charuchandra College – Kolkata was founded on 1st October 1947, with Dr. S. N. Ray as the first Principal and is housed in its present premise at 22 Lake Road, Kolkata. Charuchandra College – Kolkata has been christened after Late Charuchandra Chattopadhyay, a notable Indian nationalist. It has its history embedded in the country's post-partition scenario, when Dr. S. N. Ray and some other eniment academicians of Dacca University and its affiliated colleges initiated a move to establish a College in South Calcutta, to cater to the needs of migrant refugees from erstwhile East Pakistan. The family members of Late Charuchandra Chottopadhyay, following Charuchandra's spirit of social work, came forward to assist in this noble task.
Charuchandra College – Kolkata is situated at 22 Lake Road, Kolkata, West Bengal. The abiding motto of Charuchandra College – Kolkata is Alito Rapeto – I Seek Higher Life. This motto is achieved not merely in rhetorical terms that reiterates a zealous spirit, but real-life manouevres, aimed at the all-round physical and mental growth of students, by mingling knowledge of science with society. This co-educational college started with courses in Intermediate Arts and Science and Degree Arts.
Presently, the college runs Honours and General Courses in English, Bengali, Political Science, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology. Besides, the institution also runs General Courses in Education, Philosophy, History, Statistics and Journalism & Mass Communication. The college has introduced B. Com. Honours and General courses exclusively for girls, in Morning Section since August 2002.
Charuchandra College – Kolkata Library is a treasure house of knowledge. The book section includes reference books, books by Indian and foreign authors, encyclopaedias and books in career guidance. Several international journals are made available to the students. Comfortable seating and a calm atmosphere render the library a pleasant place to browse through anything ranging from the day's newspaper to the latest best seller. The library is computerized and is open to the students from 9 AM to 5 PM on all working days. One of the services provided by the Department of Computer Science, the browsing centre provides the staff and students access to internet on working days from 10 am to 5 pm.

Charuchandra College – Kolkata Alumni Association bridges the hiatus between the past and the present and aids the college in the areas of social service and chronicling records and reports about the past students.
